Originally from France, the Kaiser pear - also named Beurre Bosc in the Americas -, takes its name from a French horticulturist called Louis Bosc. It is mostly known under the name Kaiser in Europe. It has a long tapering neck and russeted skin. Recognizable for its warm cinnamon color, Kaiser is often used in representative arts due to its shape. Its pulp is white, dense, crispy and smooth. When fully ripe the pear has a sweet buttery taste. Known for its premium quality, some even call it the "aristocrat of pears".
Pears are an excellent, healthy part of the diet. They contain fiber, which helps the digestive system work smoothly and may help lower cholesterol levels. They also contain calcium, iron, protein, antioxidants and vitamin C.
