The mango is native from Southern Asia – it is said from Eastern India. It has been cultivated since Ancient times and introduced into Africa in the 16th century, then to Brazil and the West indies.
The main producers of Heidi mangoes today are South Africa and India, but the variety is also grown in other territories such as Reunion Island. Heidi was the last variety to be cultivated on the French island as production started in 2007.
