Galia melon was discovered in Israel by the Dr. Karchi and named this way in honor of his daughter. Within the spanish territory, Murcia and Almeria are the only areas where this fruit is grown. Round in shape, it has a dense netting of rough lines on its skin and becomes yellow at maturity. Sweet and aromatic, with a unique aroma and flavor, its ripeness is measured more by color and fragrance than by softness at the stem.

Galia melon is an excellent source of beta carotene and vitamin C. High in both fiber and moisture, it helps to prevent constipation, promote regularity and maintain a healthy digestive tract. With its high water and electrolyte content, cantaloupe is a great snack to have on hand during the hot summer months to prevent dehydration.
