Description: The Tangor, also named Mandora or Topaze, was discovered in 1896 in Jamaica. This citrus fruit is an hybrid of the mandarin orange and the sweet orange. It. The name "Tangor" is a combination of the "Tang" of tangerine and the "or" of "orange". The Tangor variety was introduced from Corsica and wide spread in Reunion Island in the 70’s. It can easily be found in creole gardens, local markets or even by the side of the roads.The Reunionese Tangor is made of a thick skin with a pebbly / rough surface but easy to peel. Skin color at maturity is a deep reddish-orange. Even green, it can be filled with sweet and fragrant juice. Indeed, coloring of the orange comes from the decrease in temperature transforming chlorophyll into yellow or red pigments. Its bright orange pulp is sour-sweet and full-flavored.
