Four Seasons Lemon

Four Seasons Lemon

Origin: Reunion Island, France

Description: The Eureka variety, also named Four Seasons lemon, is originated from Sicilia, Italy: it is the most common citrus worldwide. It takes its name from the flowering and fruiting that allow eight months of availability over the year. Its introduction in Reunion Island probably dates back from the 18th century, when sailors were consuming it on boat to prevent scurvy during their long journeys to reach this part of the world.

Nutrition: Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C, B6, A and E. It also contains metals and minerals such as calcium, copper, magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc and phosphorus. Health benefits of lemon include treatment of indigestion, throat infections, fever, constipation, dental problems, respiratory disorders… And it also benefits hair and skin. Known for its therapeutic and antiseptic properties, the lemon helps strengthen the immune system, cleanse the stomach, and is considered a blood purifier. Lemon oil may also be used in aromatherapy as it contributes to relaxation.

How to use: Lemon juice is commonly used as a short-term preservative on certain foods that tend to oxidize, turning brown after being sliced (enzymatic browning). The acid of its juice is often used on bananas, avocados or apples to denature enzymes.

How to store: Like other limes and lemons, it is better stored in the crisper compartment where humidity maintains its freshness. Caviar limes can be stored up to 3 weeks in these conditions.
