1. OUR COMMITMENT TO THE PLANET
It is said that every big journey starts with a little step.
When we launched WHAT'sIN, we decided to be consistent with who we are and with the overall direction that individuals but also companies should take to mitigate their impact on the planet.
Since the beginning, our DNA reflects concrete commitments from our company to:
However, we also knew that the nature of our activities - fresh food import and distribution - implied that we would generate higher carbon emissions than if we were to source conventional productions in Hong Kong or Mainland China. We always wanted to offset these unavoidable inbound logistics emissions but there was only so much we could do with our resources and good will at that time.Â

2. CARBON NEUTRAL CERTIFICATION
Some time has passed and we are now proud to finally reach what we consider as a milestone. Since October 2021, WHAT'sIN offsets its CO2e emissions with the support of ClimatePartner, a renowned and credible organization that certifies our carbon emissions calculations, advises us on how to improve our practices as well as help us to offset our carbon emissions on a monthly basis.Â
We are now certified:
Â
The scope of this certification is that we now offset our CO2e emissions generated by:

3. WHATs'IN CO2e EMISSIONS
WHAT'sIN CO2e emissions that have been offset since October 2021 equal 212,688 kg.

4. THE CARBON OFFSET PROJECT
The project we are investing in is about Myanmar Stoves Campaign.Â
Myanmar has one of the fastest rates of deforestation in the world. As the forests disappear, the price of wood gets higher, driving more and more families into energy poverty. Rural families in Myanmar spend as much as 40% of their income - or the time equivalent - on purchasing or collecting firewood.
With new cookstoves, as the efficiency is better, this high amount of wood can be reduced by 50%, reducing both pressure on household expenditure on fuel and forests: saving the equivalent of 2.5 tons of wood per year and per stove.
Besides, indoor cooking on inefficient stoves is a silent killer. Air pollution from domestic cooking is responsible for the premature deaths of over 4 million people a year -Â more than HIV Aids and malaria combined. Air pollution is reduced by 80%, improving the health and safety of the whole community: The heat and smoke are retained in the central section of the stove, providing a much cleaner method of cooking than an open fire. Also, sparks do not escape the combustion chamber, greatly reducing the risk of a household fire.Â
It is a milestone for us but also for Hong Kong as we will be the first to offset our CO2e emissions related to our inbound logistics and packaging manufacturing in our industry. We hope that it will inspire other market players and will always be transparent in what we do and challenge ourselves to do and be better.
