The Abate Fetel variety was first grown in 1865 in the Rhône region in France by the Abbot Fetel. For a long time rarely available outside of Europe, this pear has slightly crisp texture and a sweet flavor with delicate notes of honey. Abate pears main production regions are Argentina and Italy. They are only available for a short time during the early spring months. Abate is ready to eat when just barely soft to the touch.
